Cheered by thousands of supporters gathered at the U.S. Capitol, Donald J. Trump took the oath of office as the 45th President of the United States, using his Inaugural Address to repeat his familiar campaign vow to focus first on the troubles of Americans at home, as he sent a message to lawmakers in Congress sitting around him.

“We will no longer accept politicians who are all talk and no action,” Mr. Trump said to cheers. “The time for empty talk is over.”

The first speech of the new President touched repeatedly on the themes that helped him wipe out a deep field of Republican candidates, and then win a victory in November over Democrats and Hillary Clinton.

“At the bedrock of our politics will be a total allegiance to the United States of America,” Mr. Trump said, as he vowed once more to fix problems in the U.S. first.

“From mountain to mountain, from ocean to ocean, hear these words,” Mr. Trump said, “You will never be ignored again.”

The wounds of the 2016 campaign though were still evident at the Trump Inauguration, as the crowd gave a mixed reception to some top Democrats, as some chanted, “Lock her up!” when Hillary Clinton was introduced, along with her husband, ex-President Bill Clinton.
